What is CASPer?
CASPer (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics) is a situational judgment test (SJT) designed to assess personal and professional qualities that are important for future healthcare providers. Unlike other graduate exams, like the GRE, CASPer doesn't test academic knowledge. Instead, it presents realistic scenarios and asks how you would respond.
Scoring
Scores are reported as quartiles (1st-4th)
Each response is scored by a different human rater, assessing for qualities like ethics, empathy, communication, and reasoning, not grammar or writing style.
Competitive Scores for PA Applicants:
-
Programs use these quartiles differently, with some weighing them more heavily than others.
-
Your CASPer score is just one part of a holistic application, considered alongside your GPA, experience, and interview.
